CAPPSNC Laser Scanning Module

 

This document gives a general description of the functions associated with the CAPPSNC feature extraction function located in the Pointcloud menu.

 

 

Open the Pointclouds Extract Feature function

 

 



Functions available in the Extract Dialog

 

 

 

Select: This button opens the feature nominal list. Features selected appear in the large window.

 

Delete Selected: Removes selected features from the selected feature window

 

Delete All: Removes all features from the selected feature window

 

Just Selected Checkbox: This option will only extract features selected in the feature window

 

Add Output: This option will add output statements to the program along with the extraction

 

Advanced / Basic Settings button: This button will expand or reduce the options available in the dialog

 

Extract: Perform the Extraction function on the desired features

 

Add To DMIS: Add the feature extraction code to the program

 

Close: Close this dialog

 

Settings For Feature Extraction: Opens the dialog the contains all functions related to geometric feature algorithms and filter options

 

Advanced Filtering: Uses the enhanced filtering functions. This is recommended for most cases

 

Edge Point Type (2D Features): Settings to determine how hole features should be extracted from the edge of a point cloud

  • First Deviation From Plane: Will select points nearest to the plane of the surface scanned

  • Last Point Near Edge: Will select points nearest to the surface of the scanned hole

  • Wall Point: Will extract points from the wall of the scanned hole at the set Depth



Fix Diameter: This option will use the fix the extracted feature diameter to the nominal size. This is used in cases where location of the hole is more important than the size

 

Compute Feature Plane (2D Features): This option will extract a small plane from the surrounding scanned surface for the projection of a 2D feature. If this option is not used, the extracted feature will be projected to the nominal feature when extracted

 

Search Zone: Used to define the boundary around the nominal feature in the scanned plane that will be used to locate optimal point cloud data for extraction

 

Search Zone From Feature Plane: Used to define the boundary around the nominal normal to the scanned plane that will be used to locate optimal point cloud data for extraction

 

Offset: Used to offset the “Search Zone From Feature Plane” area along the normal direction of the scanned surface

 

Depth: Used when Advanced Filtering is disabled to set the depth that is used to locate optimal point cloud data for the extraction of a feature to a nominal

 

Min. Distance Between Points: Used when Advanced Filtering is disabled to “filter” the point cloud data when trying to extract a feature based on a nominal. Making it easier for the software to find a valid point
